Utopia Space Sod Turning Ceremony

Sod Turning Ceremony, Utopia Space Fortitude Valley

A sod turning ceremony is a traditional ceremony that celebrates the beginning of construction for a building. On the 26 July, a sod turning ceremony was held in Fortitude Valley to mark the start of work on Utopia Space by Sandt Developments Group. Hutchinson Builders will commence construction in the coming weeks over a period of approximately 28 months.

In attendance, Sandt Developments Group Chairman Tom Sun and Project Manager Bill Wang was joined by dignitaries Jack Hutchinson of Hutchinson Builders, Councillor Vicki Howard of the Central Ward, Councillor Steven Huang of the MacGregor Ward, John Gaskin of Gaskin Construction Services.

The ceremony began with speeches from Councillor Vicki Howard who spoke of the vibrant and growing suburb of Fortitude Valley, and Chairman of Sandt Developments Group, Tom Sun, who talked about his long time dream of Utopia Space that is about to come to life.

Dignitaries were then invited to pick up a red ribbon bound shovel to partake in on the occasion which marked the start of construction; whereby the shovels were and used to turn the sod for the first time.

Following this, red lions danced playfully with dignitaries and guests to overturn the past to new and flourish beginnings. It is safe to say we will be keeping an eye out for what’s to come in the next 28 months!
