Korean Cultural Festival
All the sights, sounds and tastes of the Korean Cultural Festival came alive on 12th August at King George Square, in the heart of Brisbane celebrating their National Liberation Day of Korea.
Shin Yongha (aka Johnny Shin!) and YouTube sensational SeoulSarang, Sara Holmes were on hand to emcee for the day. The festival was joined by prominent guests Gwang Hoon Hyn, President of Korean Society of Queensland, Sangsoo Yoon Consul-General of the Republic of Korea and Graham Quirk Lord Mayor of Brisbane.
Organised by the Queensland Korean Society, celebrating the Korean heritage, uninterrupted traditional and contemporary cultural performances from Queensland Korean Choir, P4pero, AO Crew, KATU, One Taekwondo School and Arirang Korean Traditional Dance to name a few, children’s activities and amazing raffle prizes throughout the day, it no wonder this festival just keeps on getting bigger every year. 50,000 people attended in 2016 and counting!
Of course we could not ignore the aromas and tastes of Korean sweets and eats! Korean shaved ice desserts (bingsoo), seafood pancakes (maemul pajeon), glass noodle with vege and park (japchae), sweet fish pancakes, pork kimchi salad, bulgogi on rice and there was more!
Last but not least, sponsors who have been an integral part of this successful festival were Brisbane City Council, Queensland Government, National Australia Bank, Littles, Hanwoori Korean BBQ Buffett, Shabuhouse, Hyundai, Jae My Holdings Group, Kogas HT Human Touch, Korean Air, Diana Plaza Hotel, SungDo Lawyers, Select Australia, and Vision Weekly News.
With patron numbers on the increase yearly, where will the festival be held next year?
Thanks for having us and can’t wait til 2018!
